Common Darter

Here’s a shot from Whitecross Green Wood,  a female Common Darter.

 

On this occasion, the handheld flash technique had more than the usual benefits: the flash as main light meant that balancing the strong directional sunlight was easier; taking this kind of shot in these conditions without flash would have produced a very contrasty shot of the darter, with the risk of too many shadows.
