My Top 10 Butterfly Shots 2013

10. Tigerwing

Stratford Butterfly Farm

Nikon D3S/200f4micro/cpl/SB600+softbox

ISO 4000 1/250 f/16 handheld

I don’t normally like dark backgrounds, but with this I think it actually sets the subject and flower off very well.  One with the D3S – butterfly-farm lighting conditions often very gloomy indeed!

This shot made it into the reader portfolio.

9. Purple Hairstreak – Neozephyrus quercus

Bernwood Forest, mid-July

Nikon D800E/200f4micro/cpl/SB600+softbox

Stack of 2 frames

ISO 800 1/250 f/16 handheld

Perched on a hazel leaf at eye level.  Still don’t have a topside view of this species, but very difficult to see let alone photograph.

8. Small Blue – Cupido minimus

West Berkshire, late June.  A species new to me for this year; easy to see at only a few sites in my region.

Nikon D800E/200f4micro/cpl/SB600+softbox

ISO 800 1/250 f/16 handheld
